Uzbekistan will get acquainted with song-like radiance of the White sea

The tour of the State Academic Northern Russian Folk Choir in Uzbekistan will take place within the framework of the international project Russian Seasons. The concerts are scheduled for 16 and 17 November. The Russian Seasons project is supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The choir will present the program Song-like Radiance of the White Sea based on cultural traditions of the Russian North. The program features songs collected in different areas of the Arkhangelsk region. Among them – Kak u Stolbyshka Totsenogo (By a Chiseled Column) from Leshukonsky district, Tiho Stonet Sine More (Quietly Moans the Blue Sea) from Mezensky district, the  Big Pinezh round dance Khozhu Ya Po Travke (Walking on the Grass), chastushki (four line folk couplets) from Solvychegodsk area and other songs and dances.

“Some of these songs were recorded far back to the beginning of the 20th century in the places where they emerged: on the Mezen, on Pinezhye, in the Kotlas district of the Arkhangelsk region. Some other songs were composed by contemporary authors, but based on traditional culture. These are: the dance Merrymaking on Lacha by Denis Chalykh, the songs of the Arkhangelsk author Sergei Grigoriev Falcon and Russian North, which our audience always receives with a storm of applause,” said director of the Northern Choir Natalya Asadchik.

In 2019, the choir already performed at the invitation of Russian Seasons in Germany, and in 2020, the company participated in the Russian Seasons online project Stay Home with Russian Seasons.

Satyricon will bring onto stage in Uzbekistan two productions starring Konstantin Raikin

On November 15 and 16, on stage of the Russian Drama Theater in Tashkent, the actors of Satyricon will present a production staged by Evgeny Marcelli Jokers based on the play of the same name by Alexander Ostrovsky. The next day, on November 17, the Artistic director of the theater Konstantin Raikin will appear in a solo performance In My Own Voice. The Satyricon tour will take place in Tashkent as part of the Big Tour program of the All-Russian tour and concert plan and the international project Russian Seasons, which is held in Uzbekistan with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

JOKERS

“This is a performance-paradox based on Ostrovsky’s play, little known to the audience, but nevertheless comprising the entire world of the playwright. Kostantin Raikin plays the leading part of the officer Obroshenkov. In the Satyricon’s production the main characters of four more iconic plays by Ostrovsky – ThunderstormWithout a Dowry, The Forest and The Snow Maiden – are introduced to the cast . The comedy enlarged in meaning and entered the vast open space of Ostrovsky’s theater. Here everything is part of a game and everyone is a joker, including the higher forces that gave men such a complex and curious phenomenon as life, “ – comments Eugeny Marcelli.

The storyline of the play is about a poor retired officer who is trying to marry off his daughter. It is easier for him to suffer money-caused humiliation under the guise of a joker. It’s getting close to the wedding, but here different love stories intertwine with the action on the stage: from happy love to corrupt, from unrequited to tragic. Stories about love and money in a colorful epic performance, the name of which is Ostrovsky.

In 2020, director Evgeniy Marcelli won the Theatrical Star Audience Award in the “Best Director” category for Jokers. The production was also included in the long list of the Award in two more categories: “Best performance. Big Form” and “Best Supporting Actor” (Denis Sukhanov for the role of Filimon Protasich Khryukov).

IN MY OWN VOICE

A solo performance, in which Konstantin Raikin recites verses by his favorite poets. In the new version of this program, poems by David Samoilov and Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin are heard from the stage, creating a show that Raikin calls “the performance of his life.”

Arkady Raikin once advised Satyricon’s Artistic director to include poetic recitals into his repertoire on a permanent basis: “This will help the audience understand you better and form a “multilayer” view of life.”

Konstantin Raikin recites poetic lines, as if playing many dramatic roles, preceding them with stories about the authors and sharing thoughts on life and country:

“I feel a wave of interest in true poetry. People lack certain vitamins in their spiritual repast, certain good phrases, certain beautiful turns of speech. Read Pushkin – there will be fewer bacilli in the air. It’s like a bell ringing.”

The poetic will also feature The Tale of Tsar Saltan by A.S. Pushkin

A memorable event took place in Samarkand – it was whole season of the Russian Seasons project that included four concerts. On 10 October, at the Amphitheater of the “Eternal City”, People’s Artist of Russia and the Republic of Abkhazia, the first ever winner of the Grand Prix of the International Tchaikovsky Competition (1994) Hibla Gerzmava (soprano) and the invited guest, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, soloist of the Bolshoi Theater of Russia opera troupe Igor Golovatenko (baritone) performed musical works by world famous composers – G. The famous Gnessin Ensemble of Contemporary Choral Music Altro Coro, led by conductor and Artistic director – Rector of the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music Alexander Ryzhinsky, presented its concert program Masterpieces of Choral Music: From Classics to Contemporary. Altro Coro, which in Italian means “another choir”, is unique not only for its stunning sound, but also for its excellent program of works that are rarely heard. A special collection of musical masterpieces was prepared  specially for the Russian Seasons in Samarkand: Sergei Rachmaninov’s Rejoice, O Virgin Mary, We Sing to Thee; Take Heart, Friends, We’re marching Onward by Dmitry Shostakovich, Where Is Our Rose by Georgy Sviridov , Don MacDonald’s Tabula Rasa and others. “This is not my first time in this amazing country, I know many musicians personally. We have a common musical mindset, this unites us. We have a fairly diverse program, it is a mosaic in a sense, there is everything in it for the Moscow Soloists to show themselves, in fact, as soloists. Some works were performed in Samarkand for the first time. For example, the adagio Nostalgia by the Georgian author, my great friend Enri Lolashvili, as he wrote this composition especially for me. In Samarkand we presented very beautiful, soulful, accessible music,” said Yuri Bashmet.

On October 13, the State Academic Honored Dance Ensemble of Dagestan Lezginka, recognized as a cultural heritage of Dagestan, demonstrated its mastery. The company toured 75 countries around the world and is the winner of 52 world-famous folk dance festivals among professional groups. “We know the Uzbek people as hardworking, friendly, warm, as a people with incredible originality. It is difficult to surprise the world famous ensemble Lezginka, which has visited over 70 countries of the world, but when we were in Uzbekistan last time, I was pleasantly surprised by the incredible interest and the attention that was shown to our company. Our expectations were met this time too. Everything was organized very professionally and on a dew level. I would like to thank the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the entire Russian Seasons team, the Ministry of Culture of Uzbekistan and everyone who was involved in the organization of the project for this. Today it is very important to bring our peoples closer to each other and turn them into one big family, showing our traditions, history, origins through the prism of choreography. Our cultures are very polar, but this is exactly why it is so wonderful to make a mosaic out of them,” said Dzhambulat Magomedov.

The artists of “Lezginka” performed several varieties of Lezginka dance, choreographic compositions Mountain Dance, Kumyk Suite, and Rhythms of the Caucasus, Avar girl’s dance Playful Girls and other choreographic pieces.

“The Russian Seasons project in Samarkand is a project that we have been working at for a long time. Thanks to the Russian Seasons, residents of our city and all of Uzbekistan had the opportunity to enjoy wonderful music. The Eternal City hosted a concert by opera diva Hibla Gerzmava, which was expectedly sold out. World-famous musicians also performed in Samarkand, including the great Yuri Bashmet. Russian Seasons is a wonderful gift for the people of Uzbekistan,” emphasized Daniyor Khusainov, director of the Eternal City complex.

The historical and ethnographic complex Eternal City and the Aiwan complex are part of the Samarkand tourist center Silk Road Samarkand – a unique multidisciplinary tourist complex that combines cultural, medical and business tourism facilities. It has become a modern landmark not only of Samarkand, but throughout Central Asia. The name for the center was not a random choice: from the 2nd century BC the routes of the Great Silk Road passed on the territory of modern Uzbekistan. One of the important stops for caravans of merchandise was ancient Samarkand. Eight world-class hotels, comfortable public spaces, parks, recreation and sports areas, concept restaurants, cafes and bars, as well as an international convention center and cultural facilities are located on the territory of Silk Road Samarkand.

“The current visit of GITIS masters to Tashkent is the first after a very long break. We have long-standing and friendly ties with the theater university, we regularly and with great joy receive colleagues from Uzbekistan in Moscow, but it so happened that we are coming here for the first time. We have no doubt that we will like it in Tashkent. I really hope that the trainings, lessons, and advice from GITIS teachers will be useful to all participants in our school.
